Spicy Braised Konnyaku (Konjac or Konjaku)
- Remove konnyaku from package
- Rinse under cold running water
- Cut konnyaku into 2 cm cubes
- Boil briefly to remove any bitterness (called “aku” in Japanese)
- Remove from heat and drain
- Heat a little sesame oil in a frying pan
- Add the konnyaku and lightly stir fry
- Add some thinly sliced dried chili peppers, soy sauce, and mirin
- Stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes
- Top with some toasted sesame seeds
It takes a while for the flavor to sink in to the konnyaku, so it often tastes better after letting it rest for awhile or serving it the next day (store it in a covered container in the refrigerator).
