Years ago, I had tried to teach myself how to crochet, but I did not get very far. There never seemed to be enough time to really get into it.
I wanted to try again as a way to spend some time inside at home during the winter months. I am just a beginner at crocheting, and not at all ready to tackle anything complicated. I wanted something easy to crochet, ideally with a repetition of just a few basic stitches. I also wanted to make something practical. And while the stitches should be easy, the project as a whole should be a bit of a challenge.
I decided to crochet a small lap blanket using the pattern for the “Alissa Easy Crochet Blanket”
As a beginner, crocheting the first row into the foundation chain was a real pain. I ended up making the foundation chain using a larger crochet hook and then switched to the regular hook for the other rows.
I used a self-striping yarn (variegated yarn) in shades of blue and aqua. I did a little at a time on the weekends and kept going until I finally ran out of yarn. The finished size is about 32 inches by 45 inches.
